Movements of Adélie penguins in Antarctica IAdélie penguins live in a tough environment. During their prey acquisition, they look for a foraging spot over the frozen sea. The moves revealed the extensity they require to forage out of the mainland. …

Foraging spot detection in Great Whale’s migration routes IIGreat Whales save energy for breeding success by foraging at middle latitudes. By analyzing the foraging behavior the spots were discovered in individuals that decided to forage closer to Azores Islands. Dataset from Silva et al. 2013. North Atlantic blue and fin whales suspend their spring migration to forage in middle latitudes: building up energy reserves for the journey? PLoS ONE 8:e76507.

Foraging spot detection in Great Whale’s migration routes II

During breeding, Great Whales prefer to forage during their migration habitat. By applying a time filter, we can observe that some individuals decided to forage near Azores Islands. The reason is that saving energy is strategic for their breeding success.
